With a solid wrestling background and feared standup, Scott “Hands of Steel” Smith teaches grappling and Muay Thai at UTC, and has fought in several major organizations in his career, including four bouts in the UFC. Prior to turning pro in 2001, Smith, 13-4, wrestled at Sacramento City College. A native of Elk Grove, he was a fixture on the local fight scene for several years, developing a reputation as a hard-hitting competitor with an all-out style that made him a fan favorite. Winner of the World Extreme Cagefighting light-heavyweight tournament in 2005, Smith is currently signed with Elite XC. After scoring a one-punch knockout in his debut, “Hands of Steel” challenged Elite XC champion Robbie Lawler May 31 on the sport’s prime-time debut on CBS. The two battled for three intense, back-and-forth rounds, until the bout was stopped when Smith was unable to continue after being poked in the eye. Fans eagerly await a the July 26 rematch on CBS, and Smith is definitely a fighter to watch. As a coach, Scott will help you develop your takedowns, wrestling and standup while passing on the many tricks of the trade he’s learned in his career. Along with Irvin, Smith has trained regularly with some of the top fighters in MMA, including Randy Couture, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, Tito Ortiz and others. |
